The Ontario Municipal Board decision to give Hamilton the go ahead to develop airport employment lands will be a catalyst for Hamilton’s economic future.
The only reason that this project was even before the OMB was because of a small but vocal group who seem to oppose just about every economic development initiative for our City.
Whether it’s the construction of the Linc, and Red Hill or the East Mountain industrial park which have already brought Canada Bread and Maple Leaf Foods and Tim Hortons and millions of dollars of new tax revenue for the City, these projects are met with fear mongering and misinformation which cause undue delays and cost increases.
Hamilton’s future depends on creating jobs and commercial tax revenue to ease the burden on Hamilton homeowners.
Thankfully, the OMB has dismissed the hollow opposition arguments and Hamilton can continue to build on a pretty impressive economic development track record of late.
In fact, the day the OMB decision was announced , another economic report was released that showed Hamilton led all southern Ontario cities in economic growth.
The airport employment lands, which will create tens of thousands of new jobs and millions of dollars in new tax revenue will only add to that success.
There’s still a lot of work to do, but with this OMB decision about airport employment lands, Hamilton’s economic future just got a whole lot brighter.
