An initiative will begin next week which aims to make Hamilton’s north end more child and family-friendly.
A five year pilot project will reduce speed limits to 30 kilometres per hour on residential streets from the CN Tracks north to the waterfront and west of Wellington Street.
James Street North and Burlington Street West are exempted. The speed limits for those routes will remain at 50K.
In addition to lower speed-limits, the North End Traffic Management Plan includes curb extensions, wider crosswalks, additional street parking and the recent conversion of MacNab Street to two-way traffic.
Councillor Jason Farr says it’s all about traffic calming and calling attention to the fact that “Hey, we live here. Be careful as you travel through”.
