It looks like City Council is going to try to raid the Future Fund to finance this ill-conceived partnership with the Board of Education at Scott Park.
The Board wants to build a high school on land that they declared surplus and sold off some years ago, but , they don’t have the money to do so.
They’re trying to get the City to pony up cash for a grandiose school and rec centre.
The problem is, the City doesn’t have that kind of money either, and when the City applied for Future Fund money for this project, the Future Fund Board, comprised of community members, said ‘no’, the project didn’t qualify.
But, why would City Councilors listen to the will of the community if it contradicts the agenda of some City Councilors ?
This is wrong on so many levels.
When did this project jump to the top of the list of City Council priorities ?
What about all the other capital projects that are waiting for funding ?
Councilors are doing an end run around their own budget process and the Future Fund process because they know that the Scott Park project wouldn’t pass that kind of scrutiny and frankly, that stinks !
