Anyone who thought that the Auditor General’s investigation into the Senate expense scandal was going to blow the lid off this misues of taxpayer’s money is likely going to be disappointed.
When AG Micheal Ferguson said he was going to investigate the spending of every Senator, we assumed that he would employ the same methods used by the Deloitte auditors when they went over Pamela Wallin’s spending.
Instead, Ferguson is apparently just going to review the numbers that the Senators themselves have OK’d.
If there are any indiscressions, we probably won’t find out who did it or how much money may have been squandered.
Which begs the question. why bother ?
We don’t need the Auditor General to simply rubber stamp a report that Senators have already submitted, we need a thorough analysis of how Senators and MP’s spend our money for their purposes, but that’s not going to happen.
As usual, taxpayers will be kept in the dark and the Ottawa elite will continue to live by the Golden Rule… Those who control the gold, get to make all the rules !
