Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath has reiterated her position that her Party will not support the funding plans for the government’s LRT plan.
She still thinks that taxing the big, bad corporations is the solution.
In these days of economic instability, very few people support this Robin Hood approach to economics, but I guess the Ontario NDP didn’t get that e mail.
For his part, PC leader Tim Hudak is also opposed to tax increases of any kind.
And many municipalities, including Hamilton, have given a thumbs down to tax increases to pay for The Big Move.
So before anyone else waxes eloquently about how wonderful a billion dollar LRT system will be for Hamilton, let’s look at the cold, hard facts.
The Feds , who are committed to slaying the deficit dragon before the next election, aren’t going to be handing out fistfuls of money.
The Province has no money to pay for this and the three Parties at Queens Park are so entrenched in their ideologies that finding a solution seems like a long shot , at best.
And, if this statemate continues, the dream of wonderful LRT systems in Ontario will remain just that, a dream !
