The McMaster Marauders kicked off the OUA football season with a commanding 51-24 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gee’s Sunday afternoon.
Quarterback Marshall Ferguson completed 28 of 40 passes for 352 yards, threw two touchdowns and scored two rushing majors.
McMaster showed its dominance early on, opening the game with a 21-0 lead.
But Ottawa fought back late in the second quarter and narrowed the gap to 21-16 at halftime.
Mac rebounded in the second half, and flexed its muscle by scoring 30 points to secure the season opening victory.
The two-time defending Yates Cup champions have now won 20 straight games against OUA opponents.
Mac’s last OUA loss was September 10, 2011 versus Western.
The Marauders next play at Queen’s Tuesday September 2 on AM900 CHML.
In other Week 1 games in the OUA, Western blasted Toronto 50-14, Windsor crushed Waterloo 78-11, Guelph topped Laurier 21-7 and Queen’s embarrassed York 52-1.
