Pundits are speculating about whether or not Justin Trudeau’s admission that he smoked pot a few years ago will help or hurt his political future.
Frankly, I don’t think most Canadians care one way or another about Trudeau going one toke over the line.
Those who don’t like him will condemn him for it, those who like him will applaud his honesty and transparency.
And let’s face it; the majority of editorialists and bloggers who weigh in on this are part of the polarized left or right opinionators.
But elections are won or lost by attracting voters from the vast ‘middle’ who have no Party affiliation.
Trudeau is gambling that many of them feel that Canada’s cannibas laws are outdated and in need of change.
However, I think the timing of Trudeau’s admission was a dumb political move.
While the Conservatives were on the defensive about the Senate expense scandal, Trudeau gave them something to deflect some of the heat his opponents were feeling.
I don’t know if Justin Trudeau has the chops to be Prime Minister some day.
But changing the narritive while your opponents are on the ropes, shows he still has a lot to learn in this game of high stakes politics.
