The Ontario government is going to allow front line officers to carry stun guns.
This after the fatal shooting of Sammy Yatim on an empty Toronto street car where the teen was shot at 9 times for failing to drop a knife.
Police chiefs are in agreeance this gives the officer another, less lethal, option when a life is in danger.
The obvious question is why weren’t front line officers issued tazers rather than higher ranking officers who are not first on the scene.
The answer will be, study needed to be done because people have died as a result of a tazer or stun gun.
That hasn’t stopped others provinces and the RCMP from implementing the device.
It sounds like in this governments attempt to protect us , they may have put us at risk.
One has to ask, if the officer on the street car that night had a stun gun, would Sammy Yatim still be alive today?
I’m Scott Thompson.
