Watching City Council spend our money is like watching somebody running up the tab on a stolen credit card sometimes.
It’s a painful reminder that most Hamilton Councilors seem to think there is an inexhaustible supply of money for whatever strikes their fancy.
They spend close to $10 million buying land in the West Harbour before they did their homework on the proposed stadium site , and that ended badly.
Now, they want to go back to the ‘taxpayer ATM’ to pay for a Scott Park collaboration with the School Board.
Problem is, the school board doesn’t own the land, and frankly, the City doesn’t have the money to subsidize this project.
By the way, does anyone remember how this unfunded spending spree became a Council priority ?
Then, there’s the ridiculous idea of re-spending that $10 million that was squandered in the West Harbour because we might get all of that money back when we sell that land.
If you suggested that kind of funding scheme to a bank, they’d laugh you out of the place.
But, City Councilors know they can just keep withdrawing from the Taxpayer ATM, and sadly, we keep letting them do it.
