Peter Shurman is the Finance critic for Tim Hudak’s Ontario PC Party.
He’s been a loud and effective critic of government mis-spending; mind you, the government has given him plenty of ammunition over the years.
Anyway, Shurman is the MPP for Thornhill , which is about a 30 minute drive from Queens Park.
He’s in hot water right now because it has been revealed that Shurman bought a home in Niagara on the Lake and is now claiming over $20,000 in living expenses to maintain two residences , at the taxpayers expense.
Shurman said that the house in Niagara on the Lake is for his retirement and, gee whiz, it’s hard to pay for two houses on a salary of $112,000 a year !
Actually, MPP Shurman makes a little over $116,000 annually, and as for his financial hardship, the average income in Ontario is just over $30,000 , and many of us are having trouble hanging on to one house, let alone buying a second house for our retirement .
So, we have an MPP who is making almost four times the average income in Ontario, asking taxpayers to subsidize his purchase of a house in Niagara on the Lake.
Mind boggling isn’t it ?
Since this sad saga has been exposed , Shurman says he won’t claim the expense any more.
Fact is, he shouldn’t have done it in the first place.
Just another example of an elected official entitled to his entitlements .
