About 100 protestors are expected to gather in front of Hamilton City Hall late Monday afternoon.
Their target is not the city, rather the Canadian and American governments and their response to the violence in Syria.
The Hamilton Coalition to Stop the War’s Ken Stone says there must be “no rush to war” amidst the threat of military strikes.
Stone adds that the message in the “Hands Off Syria” rally is two-fold — to show U.S. President Obama that there is massive opposition to his plan for a unilateral attack on Syria and to urge Prime Minister Harper to stay out of it.
He also believes people should be skeptical of American claims that the Syrian government used chemical weapons against its people.
Stone’s position is that even if the use of chemical weapons is eventually confirmed by United Nations’ weapons inspectors, it would then be time for diplomacy and international sanctions.
