The city of Hamilton has confirmed the first human case of West Nile Virus for this year.
A man in his 70’s had a moderately severe illness with fever and is recovering well.
To-date, 9 positive mosquito batches have tested positive for West Nile virus.
Meantime, Toronto Public Health is reporting an 80-year-old man has died of the virus.
A spokeswoman says the man was one of two confirmed human cases since June 3.
Human cases have also occurred in Niagara, Halton and other areas in southern and central Ontario.
As of the end of August, the province has recorded six probable and 11 confirmed human cases of West Nile virus.
