Hamilton Mayor Bob Bratina says Friday’s murder at 95 Hess Street is just the latest example of violence in Hamilton Housing and shows something must be done to correct the problems.
He says it may require a complete overhaul of the way we think about affordable housing and whether there needs to be a way to get rid of large apartment buildings and townhouse complexes.
He thinks the private sector needs to be involved in the discussions.
In addition – as chair of the police board – Bratina wants to discuss security measures with Hamilton Housing to determine improved ways of improving response times to incidents in those buildings.
21 year old Wor Yahana Wur of Missssauga died in hospital after he was shot at 95 Hess Street on Friday morning.
A 23-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with second-degree murder in the incident.
