Right now, in work places around North America, people are strolling into work, coffee cup and bagels in hand, ready to start their work day.
In Washington yesterday, at the Naval Yard, that daily routine was interrupted by a hail of gun fire .
Twelve innocent victims died in the assault.
Just a few weeks ago, as school began , a memorial service was held at Sandy Hook Elementary School where a gunman had slaughtered innocent children months before.
Then there are the thousands, yes thousands of Americans who die from gun violence every year that don’t make national headlines.
Numerous public opinion surveys show that the majority of Americans favour stricter control over the sale and use of guns.
Yet, spineless politicians , intimidated by a loud and well funded gun lobby, refuse to do anything.
The alleged shooter in Washington yesterday had a history of gun violence and was described as ‘full of rage’.
There’s no way he should have been anywhere near a loaded weapon.
Instead, Americans mourn the loss of 12 more innocent victims.
The greater tragedy however, is that as the body count increases, American lawmakers do nothing.
