Things are going from bad to worse at the Police Services Board.
The resignation of Mayor Bob Bratina as Chairman and Board member is just the latest bizarre twist.
Earlier this year, during heated budget debates, personal insults and even threats pollute the proceedings.
One of the citizen members abuptly resigns.
Board member Terry Whitehead gets into a heated debate with the Police Chief about allegations of improper deployment of police officers.
The exchange is caught on video and contains foul language and accusations of lying.
Not co-incidentally, shortly after that, Whitehead is suspended from the Board while he’s investigated for inappropriate conduct.
We still don’t know who leveled the charge , or how long that investigation will take.
Then there was the ridiculous delay in appointing a replacement for Whitehead, which somehow got tangled up in red tape.
But , it gets even more outlandish.
The Chief announces , 16 months before his contract expires, that he won’t seek another contract.
Then the Mayor steps down because he feels there is a conflict between his duties as a Board member and as Mayor.
To make matters worse, through all of this, there is a troubling ‘ cone of silence’ over all proceedings; information and explanations are vitually non-existant.
Public confidence in the Police Services Board has hit rock bottom and frustrated taxpayers have every right to be asking just what the hell is going on here ?
