The McMaster Marauders fell to 2-3 on this season, after losing 24-22 to the Guelph Gryphons in Guelph.
McMaster led 13-10 at the half, on two field goals of 27 and 14 yards from Tyler Crapigna, and an eight yard touchdown pass from Marshall Ferguson to Daniel Vandevoort. Guelph’s scoring came on a 19 yard field goal from Daniel Ferraro and a 27 yard touchdown pass from Jazz Lindsey to Alex Charette.
However, two interceptions by Ferguson late in the third quater, on subsequent possessions, led to two Guelph touchdowns; by Lindsey on a four yard run, and Rob Farquharson on a one yard run, which gave Guelph a 24-13 lead.
After Crapigna hit a 43 yard field goal to cut the lead to 24-16, Ferguson threw a touchdown pass to Tyler Loveday with 17 seconds left to cut the lead to 24-22. However, the two point convert was unsuccessful, and the Gryphons killed the clock to go 4-0 on the season.
Ferguson completed 224-42 passes for 302 yards, while Farquharson had a good day in his first game since hurting his hamstring in training camp, compiling 119 yards on 18 carries.
The Marauders now have a bye week before their next game, Saturday October 5, at Ron Joyce Stadium, when they host the Waterloo Warriors in McMaster’s homecoming game. CHML broadcast time is 1 pm.
