It was a Twitter sensation, and a major visual distraction for trail users and drivers on York Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon, but nobody was seriously hurt when a boat caught fire in Hamilton Harbour.
The owner of the boat and a friend were picked up by the police and dropped off at the Macassa Bay Yacht Club, after abandoning ship when their 30 foot sailboat erupted in flame while moored near Carroll’s Point.
One of the men was taken to hospital for treatment of what are belived to be minor burns.
The boat was “completely destroyed” and damage is said to be in the $25,000 to $30,000 range.
The cause is not believed to be suspicious, likely electrical in nature.
