City Council is looking to speed up the process of deciding if King George School should be protected.
A motion created by Councillor Brian McHattie directs staff to “evaluate” King George for designation under the Ontario Heritage Act, and to make it their number one such priority.
McHattie says it’s the quickest way of determining if the 100 year old building has heritage significance.
Councillor Brad Clark feels the heritage discussion is putting the city’s public school board in “a bit of a box”.
The board must open its open its 32 million dollar high school in 2016, and is considering King George along with Parkview and Scott Park, as potential locations.
