A Hamilton native sunk the Bulldogs in their first preseason game.
Marlies Forward Spencer Abbott scored with just 1:48 left in the third period to lead Toronto to a 5-3 win.
The Marlies jumped out to a 2-0 lead just three minutes into the first period with goals by Jerry D’Amigo and Greg McKegg.
Chad Wiseman would score on the power play for Hamilton before Erik Nystrom would tie the game at two after 20 minutes.
Toronto scored the only goal of the middle frame when Wade McLeod found the back of the net at 7:04.
The third period saw the Bulldogs jump out of the gates but they had a goal called back before Stefan Fournier would knot things up at three.
When it seemed like the game would go to overtime Toronto’s Spencer Abbott scored to put the Marlies up for good. Jerry D’Amigo would add his second of the game into an empty net.
Hamilton and Toronto will play again tomorrow night in Cobourg.
The Bulldogs next home game will be next Thursday when they host Utica at the J.L Gritmire Arena in Dundas.
