The Hamilton Bulldogs saw their AHL preseason record fall to 0-and-2 after losing 2-1 the Toronto Marlies in Cobourg Saturday night.
Toronto’s Sam Carrick opened the scoring at 13:14 of the first period when he beat Dogs goalie Dustin Tokarski.
Just over four minutes later, the Marlies doubled their lead when Wade MacLeod beat Tokarski on his glove side.
Patrick Holland got the Dogs on the board with a power play goal midway through the third period, with Drew Schiestel earning an assist, but Hamilton could not find the tying goal before the final horn.
The Bulldogs and Marlies will play each other 12 times during the regular season.
Tokarski and Robert Mayer combined to make 22 saves while Toronto’s Garret Sparks and Christopher Gibson stopped 23 of 24 shots.
The Bulldogs went 1-for-3 with the man advantage while Toronto failed to score on their four opportunities.
Hamilton next, and final, preseason game will be held Thursday night at 7 o’clock at the J.L. Grightmire Arena in Dundas where the Bulldogs host the Utica Comets.
The Dogs’ open the AHL regular season October 11 at Copps Coliseum against St. John’s on AM900 CHML.
Before the game, Hamilton released six players: forwards Andre Morrissette, Trevor Bruess, David Laliberte and Chad Wiseman as well as defencemen Pierre Durepos and Matt Lashoff.
The Bulldogs also assigned goalie Peter Delmas to the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears.
On Sunday, Hamilton released forward Kelsey Wilson and defencemen Paul Cianfrini, Jonathan Narbonne and Jeremy Price.
Defenceman Matt Grassi and goaltender Mike Condon were assigned to the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers.
Blueliner Dalton Thrower was sent back to the WHL’s Vancouver Giants.
Hamilton plays its final preseason game this Thursday night in Dundas when they host Utica on CHML.
