For the second time in seven years, a Hamilton woman has been found guilty of first degree murder in the death of her husband.
A jury has ruled that Maria Figliola, a 57-year old mother of two, arranged for the brutal killing of Frank Figliola in August, 2001.
Saturday’s verdict came after four days of deliberations in a trial that began in March.
The judge sentenced Figliola to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 25-years.
The second trial had been ordered after the Ontario Court of Appeal set aside a 2006 conviction against Figliola and the alleged hit man in the case, Daniele Di Trapani.
A second trial for Di Trapani is expected in the fall of next year.
Meantime, Di Trapani is out on bail.
Figliola’s lawyer says there may be grounds for yet another appeal.
Defence lawyer Michael Lacy says there are certain aspects of the Crown’s case that compromised the fairness of the trial.
He says Figliola will have to digest this verdict and consider her options.
