With her announcement that her government is sticking to it’s guns with their funding tools for public transit, Premier Kathleen Wynne has likely started the clock for the countdown to the next Provincial election next Spring.
The Premier has appointed a Panel of experts,( governments love to appoint panels to tell them what they already know).
The Panel will report in December , and the NDP and the PC’s will condemn the recomendations again.
But then MPP’s will go on their lengthy Christmas break, so it won’t be until March when the Opposition Parties will defeat the government and send us to an Easter election.
And despite what the Premier thinks, the issue of LRT funding will be a major factor in the election.
Elections in Ontario are won or lost in the GTHA and that’s exactly the battleground for the LRT debate.
The LRT advocates will square off against the ‘no more tax increases’ side and you can bet that the rhetoric and insults will be flying from all sides.
And what will it accomplish ?
In all likelihood, another minority government and we’ll be right back where we started.
