Runaway Pan Am Games executive expense accounts had some Ontarians high jumping yesterday.
Seems the head honchos of Pan Am 2015 are taking some heat for their plump expenditures on your dime.
Headlines echoed a sense of entitlement enjoyed by the publically funded operation that included everything from $100. dinners with clients to $1.89 cups of tea.
Surely those who are making north of $300,000 can pay for their own tea, was the cry.
I’m not taking sides here but I don’t think it’s out of the ordinary for executives to be doing business over dinner while you and I are home with our families. And is $100. that much by today’s standards?
Truth is most in a contract position as this would be billing for all related expenses, whether it’s for tea or the whole dinner?
I’d be more worried about the career politician who’s been feeding off the public’s trough for years.
Or wasting money plopping a brand new stadium in the same old bad location that everyone wanted out of. That’s wasting money!
That being said, in today’s world, the optics don’t fly.
With Ontarians living in a Liberal political culture where the taxpayer always comes last, it certainly doesn’t send a positive message.
