On the same day my Hamilton Spectator column is published regarding Hamilton out growing its current city council, two new candidates throw their hat into the ring to be the next mayor.
I say two new because Mayor Bob Bratina already revealed on the Bill Kelly Show he would be seeking re-election.
Yesterday councilor Brian McHatiie started the campaign ball rolling saying his intention was to work closely with council and other levels of government.
Isn’t that what Fred Eisenberger said when he was running for mayor?
And speaking of Fred, the Hamiltonian reported by afternoon the previous mayor had confirmed his decision to run again.
Wow!…All of a sudden this is getting exciting.
Until of course you realize there is nothing new here and all are old stalwarts that have been woven into what this council has been for years, status quo or reactionary at best.
It’s up to all of them to explain why any of them deserve kick at the can, or in 2 of the 3 cases so far, another kick at the can.
Another badly kept secret is councilor Lloyd Ferguson will also run but hasn’t gone public.
Can the same old candidates work with the same old city council they work with now, or during the stadium negotiations, and be any different than they are now?
History would say, No!
It would be nice to see some of the fresh faces that have ignited this city in the last couple of years, step forward.
I’m Scott Thompson.
Wednesday on The Scott Thompson Show!
-And then there were three! Mayoral candidates…
