Burlington is being portrayed as a city of contrasts.
That’s the underlying message within Vital Signs 2013 an annual snapshot from the Burlington Community Foundation.
The community check-up highlights a number of challenges, despite the fact that Burlington is a prosperity city with low crime, higher than average levels of employment and education and was recently ranked as the top mid-sized city in which to live in Canada by Money Sense Magazine.
Areas of concern include air quality with the report noting that 86% travel to work by private vehicle in Burlington, much higher than the provincial average of 79%.
Vital Signs also says there is a lack of affordable rental housing for those who need it particularly young people and the city’s growing seniors population. The report also shines a light on the need for services to support those with mental health issues.
