A Hamilton man is facing animal cruelty charges after police were called by a building manager on Bay Street South.
Police say the manager had entered a 17th floor apartment to inspect a water leak, and that’s where she discovered a dog with a plastic bag tied around its snout. The dog was in extremely poor health, and was covered in its own feces. The state of the apartment was deplorable with garbage, animal feces and urine in every room.
The owner told authorities that the plastic bag was a way to keep the dog from barking too much. The owner also admitted to keeping the dog in its crate 23 – 24 hrs a day for the past six months, furthermore that the bag on its snout was in place the past two months.
The dog and a cat were seized by Animal Control, and the owner was charged with several offences under the Ontario SPCA Act.
