You have no doubt heard the bally who about a group of prominent Canadian women who want to change the national anthem.
Instead of “in all thy sons command” they want ‘sons’ dropped for the more inclusive ‘us’.
Feminists say it’s time to include everybody since “sons” was added pre World War I to pay tribute to those who served.
Today both genders serve and both deserve recognition.
The other side says don’t dink with history and you can’t always get what you want.
Then there are those, like me, who really couldn’t care less, and have bigger fish to fry.
That being said, clearly there are those with time, and attention, for this and I have no reason to object.
I’ll change to us.
What’s also worth noting, there are lots of women who don’t care either way or don’t want it changed, with equal reasons for their decision.
Are they any less ‘woman’ for thinking so?
Perhaps it’s because most Canadians can’t even sing all the words to Oh Canada unless their watching a jumbo tron or power ring at their local arena.
And how often can the average Canadian afford to do that.
Isn’t that the bigger issue.
I’m Scott Thompson.
