Is it too much to ask that Corrections Services Canada have an honest conversation with the City about their Halfway House on York Boulevard ?
The Feds told CBC that they have been ‘ actively involved’ in talks with interested parties about re-locating this facility.
Mayor Bob Bratina says it’s been 2 years since they talked to him about it, the Police tell us the same thing.
Communication and transparency are sadly lacking from this Government agency; they didn’t inform the City or the Police that they were laying off the specially trained staff who deal with the high risk offenders who reside at this facility.
This high risk halfway house was located in Hamilton over 20 years ago , supposedly on a temporary basis and the feds have been avoiding the issue of re-location ever since.
The lease is up on this place at the end of the year.
That’s a perfect opportunity to make good on their promise to move the facility.
Frustrated City Councilors have asked for a meeting with the CSC as soon as possible to get this settled.
The message has to be clear.
It’s time to move this facility, not just out of the downtown, but out of Hamilton.
