Published allegations that the consortium building Hamilton’s Pan Am
Stadium is skirting safety regulations are being dismissed by a city Councillor.
Councillor Lloyd Ferguson chairs the Pan Am committee and has extensive background
in construction and he sees nothing wrong with the way construction is going along.
A Burlington electrical contractor says costs are being cut by using general labourers
for electrical installation work and banning unionized subcontractors.
Ferguson says the complainant went to the media, but didn’t contact the provincial agencies overseeing
construction which is the usual procedure for this kind of grievance.
He says construction is on budget and has fallen about two weeks behind, but says they are
now working six days a week and will be caught up in no time.
