Dundas Councillor Russ Powers is alleging “gross incompetence”.
He’s voicing frustrations after Hamilton’s fire department spent nearly a million dollars more than its approved budget when it bought its new 23 million dollar radio system.
The 900 thousand dollar overage is mostly for taxes charged on the system.
Powers notes that city councillors didn’t find out about it until it was flagged by the city’s internal auditor in July.
Fire Chief Rob Simonds, who took over the department during the later stages of the project, says changes have been made to ensure that we never have a situation like this again.
