McKay Public School sent a letter home to parents asking that students wear Orange and Black in favour of ‘a more inclusive’ Spirit Day.
One parent is fighting the move by urging all other parents to send their kids to school in costume anyway, saying there’s no way the school can send all the kids home.
April Smith has also created a Facebook page called McKay Halloween Walk, where students are invited to participate in a Halloween parade outside of school during school hours.
The District School Board of Niagara says it’s up to the school principal to decide whether or not to allow costumes and the board will not interfere.
