Hamilton City Council said goodbye to Tim McCabe last night.
McCabe is the long time head of the Planning and Economic Development Department for the City and he’s retiring in a few days.
He’s respected by City Councilors, Staff and the investors and business types who have been a part of Hamilton’s renaissance .
Planning and Ec Dev issues can be complicated and controversial and I think in many ways, Tim McCabe was the right person at the right time for Hamilton.
He knows his stuff, he treats people with respect and he’s a great believer in collaboration, not confrontation to get things done.
Most people in town probably don’t know Tim McCabe.
He isn’t one of those bombastic types that seeks the spotlight; while some politicians try to take the credit for Hamilton’s new-found successes , it was dedicated and talented staff like Tim McCabe that did all the heavy lifting and negotiating behind the scenes to make it happen.
Time and space prohibit us from listing the many projects that Tim McCabe worked on, but as he sees the new businesses and jobs moving into Hamilton in the Red Hill Business Park and the condo and hotel boom that’s occurring downtown, he should be proud of his role in those and many other projects.
Enjoy retirement Tim McCabe; Hamilton’s a better place because of your talent and dedication.
