Hamilton’s future growth will be guided by a “cultural plan”.
City politicians have given unanimous approval to the document which is being described as a “significant game changer”.
It comes with a series of goals, recommendations and proposed actions and as noted by General Manager of Planning and Economic Development Tim McCabe, it is about incorporating a “cultural lens” into city development.
Any costs associated with the cultural plan would be considered as projects come forward. For example, one recommendation is to examine the feasibility of free access to civic museums.
Transformational goals include building tourism, creative expression and community identity, pride and image.
In tabling the report, the retiring McCabe jokes that he is putting his “job on the line”. He also calls it one of the most important initiatives since “sliced Canada Bread”.
