At the end of last summer our family went to the Toronto Zoo as my wife was in a 10km run there.
Of course we used the opportunity to show the kids the zoo.
I hadn’t been in years and was looking forward to taking the kids.
My 6 year old wanted to see the elephants.
Good thing we went when we did as the elephants are now on a truck on their way to a sanctuary in California.
The trek will take 3-5 days.
This has followed a heated debate that has taken a couple of years in which both sides have voiced many reasons for the elephants moving or staying put.
Why couldn’t we find a compromise here?
Remember when the Toronto Zoo was a research facility that was world renowned like the San Diego Zoo?
What happened? And isn’t there value in having an educational exhibit that promotes welfare of such animals?
What I really find odd is Toronto just opened a world class aquarium. Should those big sharks be kept in captivity?
Or will they be losing their exhibits too due to polictal correctness.
Perhaps its Bob Barker who should be spayed or neutered?
