Glad to see Hamilton Councilors re-affirm their support for the construction of the Mid Pen Highway project.
The highway has been proposed for some time now, it was highlighted as a necessity in the Province’s awarding winning Places To Grow Strategy.
But this government, bowing to the pressure from the anti-vehicle and anti- highway factions have decided that expanding the existing QEW Niagara is the better way to go, even though their own research shows that it wouldn’t come close to solving the gridlock on our highways.
The loudest opposition to the Mid Pen is from Halton Region who don’t want to see the highway cut through the Halton Hills area.
But that section of the highway can easily be relocated to the Brantford -Cambridge area where they are begging for improved highways.
After the gas plant fiasco, you’d think this Ontario government would have learned that maybe they should start listening to local Councils on key matters like this.
And maybe they should read their own policy papers that describe the need for the Mid Pen.
Hamilton’s econnomic renaissance needs transportation infrastructure and that includes the Mid Pen.
Kudos to Hamilton Councilors for standing up for Hamilton’s economic future.
