Well, the Prime Minister returned to Parliament yesterday and was prepared to do is victory lap, bragging about his partially negotiated free trade deal with the European Union.
Disgraced Senator Mike Duffy threw a stink bomb into the proceedings when his lawyer proclaimed that Duffy was the victim of a cover up by the Prime Minister’s Office, and that he was forced to take that $90,000 payout cheque to stifle the investigation into the Senate Expense scandal.
His lawyer claims to have a binder full of e mails to back up the claim.
If it’s true, it could take the PMO’s role in the scandal from ‘ meddling’ to ‘obstruction of justice’…pretty serious stuff !
Of course, at this stage these are only accusations, and in a court of law , proof is essential.
But, in the Court of Public Opinion, not so much.
Numerous public opinion polls suggest that Canadians think that we’re not getting the full story on the Expense scandal.
And no wonder; the Prime Minister wants us to believe that a micro-manager such as he, had no knowledge that one of his closest advisors was involved in a $90,000 pay out to one of the Prime Minister’s personal picks for the Senate , to make an embarassing expense scandal go away.
If Duffy’s binder full of emails debunks that story, the Prime Minister’s got some serious explaining to do.
