Affordable housing wait lists are on the rise in Ontario according to a new study from the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association.
The report found that over 158 thousand households are currently on the wait list with roughly 6 thousand here in Hamilton.
Renee Westelaar with the Social Planning and Research Council of Hamilton says that in addition to the wait list, Hamilton has a large population people who are homeless and do not have the means access it.
The report points to aging baby boomers, stagnant wages and the growth in population for demand.
The average wait time in Ontario is 3 years.
