There’s no sense in critiquing the latest report from the Integrity Commissioner.
The bar has been set so low as far as what we can expect from these reports that nothing would surprise us.
This report has to do with the Mayor’s conduct toward the City Manager at a Council meeting way back in the Spring.
It was obvious that the Mayor’s behavior was out of line , but an indignant Council decided overwhelmingly to have the Integrity Commissioner investigate anyway.
Getting advice on good manners from some of these Councilors is like getting parenting advice from Billy Ray Cyrus, but that didn’t stop them from starting the meter running on another investigation.
If Council wanted to slap the Mayor’s wrist, they could have just censured him which would have been quick and cost nothing.
Instead, we, the taxpayers, get stuck with a bill for an investigation that essentially told us what we already knew.
We should be used to political gamesmanship in Hamilton, but I’m getting tired of getting stuck with bill .
Same thing happend earlier this year when Council opted for a very expensive OMB hearing on the Lynwood Charlton issue.
We got a bill for about $200,000 and a rebuke from the OMB that ridiculed Council for their frivilous argument.
Which begs the question; when are we going to start holding City Councilors accountable for sticking us with the bill for their political escapades ?
