A Stoney Creek truck driver is being honoured Thursday night for rushing to save a fellow truck driver who was trapped after a crash on the QEW.
Stephen Lill told bystanders to ‘Get outta my way’ when they tried to persuade him to stand back because of leaking diesel fuel pooling around the overturned tanker.
Lill freed the driver, who was suffering from life threatening injuries, and helped keep him alive for 30 minutes until an air ambulance arrived and flew him to hospital, where he eventually recovered.
Lill will be honoured with the Bridgestone Canada-Ontario Trucking Association Truck Hero Award at the Ontario Trucking Association’s annual convention in Toronto tonight.
The award recognizes professional truck drivers who demonstrate courage, quick thinking and integrity in the face of an emergency.
Lill will also get to meet for the first time the man he helped save and his family.
