The need for a new French language high school in Hamilton has led to a lawsuit against the provincial government.
The civil suit revolves around the province’s inaction in providing funding for a new school to replace Hamilton’s Mother Teresa Catholic High School.
The former elementary school on the mountain does not have a schoolyard, some classrooms don’t have windows and some walls are not soundproofed.
Enrolment at ACMT has also declined to under 250 students and school officials are blaming the substandard conditions.
The local Francophone community has been demanding a new school since 1999.
