To the uninitiated, it may seem like just a football game.
But as a significant part of the Canadian culture, the Grey Cup is a big deal.
Oh sure, we have hockey, but the Americans took control of the NHL a long time ago, and they just let us participate.
But the CFL is uniquely Canadian; the larger field, the 12th man, 3 downs and that crazy single point in the end zone.
OK, I said it was unique, I didn’t say it was all good.
Then, there’s the Grey Cup, one of the oldest trophies in North American athletic history.
East vs West, just like many of the political and economic squabbles we have in Canada.
And when our Tiger Cats are involved, well, that’s kind of special.
A team that was orphaned from it’s home field and overcame a plethora of perils to make it to the big game.
The Tiger Cats have always been Hamilton’s team.
The local guys like Krouse and Hitchcock and Moreale and Stalla and so many more who wore the black and gold made us proud of the Tiger Cats and proud of Hamilton.
That other football team from Saskatchewan is pretty good too and they’ll be playing in front of their home crowd.
But if we’ve learned anything about the Tiger Cats this year, don’t ever count them out.
Oskee Wee Wee !!
