Hamilton is getting hit hard by insurance claims.
Councillors learned last night the total cost of claims against the city last year was a record 10.4-million dollars.
The figure includes several older settlements.
There were more than 22-hundred claims filed and paid out in 2012, including flooded basements, sidewalk trips and falls, car crashes, and property damage.
City staff say insurance claims and rising premiums could add 2.5-million dollars to next year’s budget.
