Marketing experts say WestJet’s brand is getting an invaluable boost from a holiday gift-giving stunt that spawned a viral video.
The airline hatched an elaborate holiday surprise for more than 250 travelers heading to Calgary on flights from Toronto and
Hamilton, asking people boarding what they’d like for Christmas.
While the plane was in flight, WestJet staff scrambled to buy the gifts, which came down the luggage carousel.
WestJet said it hoped the video would generate 200-thousand views, at which point it would donate free flights to a needy family. The video has surpassed 15-million views.
