RCMP have arrested nine people, including 4 from Hamilton, after busting a large contraband tobacco smuggling and trafficking operation.
The Mounties say the operation originated in Hamilton and has allegedly smuggled more than 73 tons of un-stamped water pipe tobacco into Canada since 2010.
The volume of tobacco the group is suspected to have smuggled resulted in millions of dollars in unpaid duties and taxes.
Two significant seizures of flavoured tobacco were made in 2011 at the Peace Bridge and at the Queenston Bridge.
Among those charged are four members of a Hamilton family, Salti, Layla, Mariam and Marleen Kafouf.
Police say they face numerous charges for smuggling, making false declarations, selling and distributing un-stamped tobacco products and proceeds of crime.
