Police and the Ministry of Labour are investigating after a 9-year-old boy was crushed by a piece of steel at a business in Hamilton’s industrial north end.
It happened at around 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon and Hamilton EMS says the boy suffered severe head trauma.
The child had no vital signs when paramedics arrived and he was pronounced dead at Hamilton General Hospital.
It happened in a building at 65 Imperial Street in the Sherman and Burlington Street area.
The child was with his father at the time, but his name has not been released.
Police haven’t said why the two were in the building, however, a police spokesperson says it is not being treated as a trespassing or break in.
The EMS crew that responded was taken off the road will be debriefed due to the traumatic incident and the age of the boy involved.
