The Ottawa RedBlacks begin plucking players off existing CFL rosters today.
And what RedBlacks general manager Marcel Dejardins will find is a solid group of available players.
I did a mock protection list for each CFL team and it generated a mock RedBlacks expansion draft team.
Here’s what the 2014 Ottawa RedBlacks could looks like.
QB: Zach Collaros TOR, Drew Tate CAL
RB: Chevon Walker HAM
FB: Patrick Lavoie MTL
WR: Dave Stala HAM, Brandon London MTL, Marco Ianuzzi BC, Eric Deslauriers MTL
OL: Chris Greaves WPG, J’Michael Deane CAL, Scott Mitchell EDM, Dan Clark SSK
DL: Almondo Sewell EDM, Ivan Brown TOR, Don Oramaisonwu EDM, Junior Turner CAL
LB: James Yurichuk TOR, Kyle Jones BC
DB: Jovon Johnson WPG, Terrell Maze SSK, Ryan Phillips BC, Dan West WPG
P: Josh Bartel

Here’s a refresher on the rules.
Round 1, Import Draft: Each team has protected one quarterback and 10 other players. The RedBlacks will select one player in this group from each team.
Round 2, Non-Import Draft: Teams have six Canadians on their protected list. Ottawa will chose one player from each CFL team.
Round 3, Non-Import Draft: The eight current CFL teams will submit an additional list of six protected non-import players. Ottawa will then choose a second non-import player from each club.
Ottawa will only be able to select two quarterbacks in the expansion draft.
And if a QB is selected from a team, that team will be able to protect two more non-import players in the first round of the Non-Import Draft.
If a kicker or punter is selected from a club, that team will be able to protect one additional non-import player in the first round of the Non-Import Draft.
