The Associated Press reports, “A children’s advocacy group says an animated video on the NORAD Tracks Santa website (http://www.noradsanta.org/ ) injects militarism into Christmas by showing fighter jets escorting Santa’s sleigh. It’s a rare swipe at the popular program, which last year attracted a record 22.3 million unique visitors from around the world to its website.”
“The Boston-based Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood said the video brings violence and militarism to a beloved tradition. Others had similar criticism. Blogs and Twitter lit up with volleys from both sides.”
The website shows Santa’s sleigh being flanked by two jets as you track his progress.
By the way, they have been doing this since the 1960’s but I guess that doesn’t means it’s politically correct.
Perhaps some have forgotten NORAD stands for North American Aerospace Defense Command and is a combined organization of the United States and Canada that provides aerospace warning, air sovereignty, and defense for North America. Their life is flying jets.
Personally, I’m just happy they are mentioning Christmas and Santa (or any other celebration) instead of sweeping traditions under the rug like yesterday’s crumbs, the way my kids school has.
‘Joy to the World’, if you can do it without offending anyone….
