Hamilton Police Staff Sergeant Ian Matthews will be laid to rest next weekend.
The 47-year old former homicide detective fatally shot himself at police headquarters on December 17.
His funeral will be held Sunday, December 29 at the Bay Gardens Funeral Home on Rymal Road East at 2 pm.
Visitation will be held the day before from 2 until 4.
While it reportedly won’t be an official police funeral, officers from across the country are expected to attend.
At the request of Police Chief Glenn De Caire, Halton Regional Police are conducting an independent non-criminal investigation into Matthews’ death.
