A Hamilton woman is hoping her cross Canada trek helps raise awareness about mental health and illness.
This July, Danielle Berman will begin her nearly 43-hundred kilometre ride in memory of her father, who took his own life in 1999 after living with depression for many years.
Berman was 13 at the time, and battled depression as well.
The now 25-year-old social worker wants to reduce the stigma of mental illness and raise money for suicide prevention.

Berman has been given a 2014 Spirit of Hope Award by St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton for her dedication to helping others.
Rainbow’s End Community Development Corporation also received a Spirit of Hope Award.
The not-for-profit charity provides employment opportunities for people living with mental illness across Hamilton and Burlington.
