The inquest into the death of Hamilton’s Steve Mesic will begin next month.
The province has set aside June 2nd for the start of the inquest into the death of the former steelworker who was shot and killed by Hamilton police last June.
The 45-year-old had checked himself out of a voluntary mental health care program at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton on June 7th and was later seen wandering along the Linc near Upper Wentworth.
He was shot and killed during an altercation with officers near his home.
The inquest, which is expected to last 10 days, will include more than a dozen witnesses.
It will examine the events surrounding Mezic’s death and the jury may also make recommendations to prevent similar deaths from occurring.
